First, choose a project you would like to complete. You could make something as simple or complex as a box. Or you could build a whole entertainment center. Once you have settled on a specific project, it is time to find a woodworker in your area who is experienced in such work. Ask him or her for advice on what tools you'll need and where to find them. You might even ask whether there's someone else you can talk to who does this kind of work.

Laser levels use an infrared beam of light to project a line across the ground. The laser emits a red dot along the line. The line can be viewed down to determine if the surface has an even surface. Laser levels are best for checking the accuracy of large surfaces.

Bubble levels look similar to a compass. The device's center bubble is visible. As long as the bubble is centered, the device will tell you whether the surface is level or not. The bubble levels can be used to check the accuracy of smaller areas.
