FAQ

What material would your recommendation be to learn woodworking?

Start with softwood like pine, poplar and ash. These two are the easiest to master, then you can transition to hardwood.

How can I determine which tools are most suitable for me?

It's important that you consider your needs and preferences while shopping for tools. Are you more comfortable with plastic or metal handles? What size nails and screws do you usually use? Do you prefer hand tools over power tools?

How often should new supplies be purchased?

You'll probably have to replace some of your tools over time. If you're using hand tools, you'll need to sharpen them regularly. And if you're using power tools, you'll need replacement parts periodically. Spread your purchases over several months to avoid purchasing too many items at once.

How To

How to make wood joint

This tutorial will show how to join 2 pieces of wood together. We will use the pocket hole joint, which is drilling holes in the wood to join them. This method is great if your wood's straight and smooth. You may want to consider other methods, such as dowel joining. These are the steps

  1. Drill Pocket Hole Joints. To start, measure and mark where you want to put the pocket hole joint. You will then drill 3/4" deep holes through each piece of wood with a jigsaw, handheld drilling machine, or hand-held drill.
  2. Sand Smooth. The wood's edges can be sanded to prevent splitting.
  3. Glue both sides together. Apply glue on both sides of the wooden plank. Allow it to sit for approximately 5 minutes before you clamp the pieces together.
  4. Secure the pieces together. After the glue has dried completely, you can clamp the pieces together until they are flush.
  5. Trim Joinery. After the glue dries completely, trim off any excess wood around the joint.

Allow enough space between pieces so you can turn them inside out.
